Donky is not like a social network, the Social Chat feature behaves a lot more like instant messaging services such as WhatsApp, Viber or Facebook Messenger. This means that users will know the contacts that they connect with in the app.
When you activate Social Chat and add it to your app you can set how your users can discover contacts. The options are as follows:
When a new user registers for the app, the Donky SDK will access the native phonebook of the device and resolve with the server (mobile number and email address are used as identifiers) to find which contacts are registered users of the same app.
Users can add new contacts to the app if they know the username. This can be input within the contacts section of the Donky SDK.
The app owner may connect users within the app. This may be to facilitate a sale or due to shared interests.
Protecting your Users
To ensure that your users receive the maximum protection from SPAM and fraud, we recommend you take advantage of the following solutions provided by Donky:
Create a list of names which users are not allowed to use as their username in the app. These could be your brand name, offensive terms or anything you find unacceptable.
Configure a maximum number of messages it is acceptable for a user to send in a 5 minute period to prevent spam. Users that exceed this will be suspended until the end of the 5 minute period and then you will be notified and can suspend them permanently if you wish.
Within Donky Control, you are able to search any username to find the history of messaging to and from that user. You can use this “log” to find what messages a user has received, should they complain of receiving spam.
Creating an app identity and corresponding standard contact within your app called something like “Report SPAM”, is a good way to allow your users to notify you if they are receiving inappropriate content. A lot like “report abuse” on social media, this allows the user some control over what happens. When you receive inbound messages to this identity you can take action to prevent the issue.
There is a facility on the Donky network to have the content of all Social Chat (P2P) messages forwarded directly to any third party system. The messages can be forwarded at near real time, for you to review the content and suspend / delete users, should you feel it necessary.
In order to protect your brand in the case of using Social Chat we suggest you add something to your terms and conditions, which states that users who send harmful materials or content of any kind will be suspended. For example: “App Users will not store, distribute or transmit any virus, or any material through the Services that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, defamatory, obscene, infringing, harassing or racially or ethnically offensive; facilitates illegal activity; depicts sexually explicit images; or promotes unlawful violence, discrimination based on race, gender, colour, religious belief, sexual orientation, disability, or any other illegal activities; non-conformance will result in suspension etc. etc.”
You should also add to your terms that you will be checking the content of the messages sent using Social Chat.
At the moment, this is enough to fall within the current legislation on in-app messaging, should the legislation change, we will change our services in order to comply.
